About the icon
The Evangelist | Apostle of Egypt
Mark wrote the second of the four Gospels and, according to ancient tradition, was a close companion of Saint Peter, whose preaching his Gospel records. He carried the faith to Egypt and became the first bishop of Alexandria, where he died a martyr. His symbol in iconography is the lion, and he is often shown seated, writing his Gospel. He is commemorated on 25 April and honoured as founder of the Church of Alexandria. Painted entirely by hand in tempera, this original is set on a recessed panel with a 24k gold leaf background.
This is a 100% Handwritten artwork crafted according to Byzantine technique and style, totally painted by hand with 24 karats Gold Leaves background. Once the theme is painted by our skilled craftsmen, a mounting point and the Certificate of Authenticity and Quality are installed at the back of the icon.
All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo. This icon is totally Handmade and though it may have very slight differences from the photos shown.
