About the icon
The Fool-for-Christ and Confessor of Mtskheta
Born in Tbilisi in 1929, Gabriel became a monk and, in 1965, publicly burned a large portrait of Lenin at a May Day parade, preaching Christ to the crowd; he was beaten and imprisoned. In later years he lived at Samtavro Monastery in Mtskheta, hiding his gifts behind the outward foolishness of a fool-for-Christ and teaching love above all. He reposed in 1995, was canonised in 2012, and is commemorated on 2 November. Painted entirely by hand in tempera, this original is set on a recessed panel with a 24k gold leaf background.
This is a 100% Handwritten artwork crafted according to Byzantine technique and style, totally painted by hand with 24 karats Gold Leaves background. Once the theme is painted by our skilled craftsmen, a mounting point and the Certificate of Authenticity and Quality are installed at the back of the icon.
All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo. This icon is totally Handmade and though it may have very slight differences from the photos shown.
