About the icon
The Righteous Wonderworker and Mother of the Alaskan Church
Olga Michael lived in the Yup'ik village of Kwethluk in south-western Alaska, where she raised a large family, served beside her husband, a priest, and worked as a midwife. She was known for comforting women in hidden suffering and for giving away what little she had. She reposed in 1979, was glorified by the Orthodox Church in America in 2025 and is remembered on 8 November. Painted entirely by hand in tempera, this original is set on a recessed panel with a 24k gold leaf background.
