About the icon
The First Archbishop and Equal to the Apostles
Born Rastko Nemanjić, son of the Serbian ruler Stefan Nemanja, he fled to Mount Athos as a young man and became a monk; with his father, later Saint Symeon, he founded Hilandar Monastery. In 1219 he became the first Archbishop of the autocephalous Serbian Church. Icons show him as a bishop. He is commemorated on 14 January, which the Serbian Church, keeping the old calendar, observes on 27 January. Painted entirely by hand in tempera, this original is set on a recessed panel with a 24k gold leaf background.
This is a 100% Handwritten artwork crafted according to Byzantine technique and style, totally painted by hand with 24 karats Gold Leaves background. Once the theme is painted by our skilled craftsmen, a mounting point and the Certificate of Authenticity and Quality are installed at the back of the icon.
All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo. This icon is totally Handmade and though it may have very slight differences from the photos shown.
