About the icon
The Panagia of Lipsi
This rare type, kept in the church of Panagia tou Charou on the Dodecanese island of Lipsi, shows the Theotokos holding not the infant Christ but her crucified Son, a meditation on His death and on her sorrow at the Cross. According to local tradition, lilies left before the icon in spring blossom again in August, around the Dormition. Its feast is kept on 23 August. Painted entirely by hand in tempera, this original is set on a recessed panel with a 24k gold leaf background.
This is a 100% Handwritten artwork crafted according to Byzantine technique and style, totally painted by hand with 24 karats Gold Leaves background. Once the theme is painted by our skilled craftsmen, a mounting point and the Certificate of Authenticity and Quality are installed at the back of the icon.
