About the icon
The chief commander of all the bodiless powers
Michael, whose name asks 'Who is like God?', leads the angelic armies and in the Book of Revelation casts down the dragon. Icons show him winged and armoured, holding a sword or spear, sometimes with a sphere bearing Christ's monogram. He is honoured at the Synaxis of the Archangels on 8 November and on 6 September for his miracle at Chonae. In Greece he is patron of the Hellenic Air Force, and the icon is often given on name days. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a raised panel, its background laid by hand in matte gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Advanced Museum Standards Technique.
Once the natural wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the Matte Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
