About the icon
The Didymus | One of the 12 Apostles
Eight days after the Resurrection, Christ came through closed doors to the disciples and showed His wounds to Thomas, called Didymus, who had not believed. The icon shows the Lord before the shut doors, raising His arm to reveal His side as Thomas reaches out, with the other apostles gathered on either side. It is celebrated on Thomas Sunday, the Sunday after Pascha, also called Antipascha. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a framed panel, its background laid by hand in 22k gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Premium Museum Standards Technique.
Once the wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the 22 karats Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface. Finally the icon is placed into a wooden frame with protecting glass resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.
