The Crucifixion is the centre of Holy Week. Orthodox icons show Christ dead upon the Cross yet serene, His head inclined, with the Theotokos and the beloved disciple John standing below, often joined by the myrrh-bearing women and the centurion. Beneath the Cross lies the skull of Adam on Golgotha, showing that Christ's death reaches the first man. It is venerated on Holy Friday and at the Exaltation of the Cross. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a carved panel, its background laid by hand in matte gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Advanced Museum Standards Technique.
Once the natural wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the Matte Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
