About the icon
The Nymphios, The Man of Sorrows
The Nymphios icon shows Christ after His mocking by the soldiers, wearing the crown of thorns and the scarlet robe, His hands bound and holding a reed. It takes its name from the Bridegroom Matins sung in the first days of Holy Week, recalling the parable of the wise and foolish virgins awaiting the Bridegroom at midnight. The icon is brought out on the evening of Palm Sunday and venerated through the first days of Holy Week. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a raised panel, its background laid by hand in matte gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Advanced Museum Standards Technique.
Once the natural wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the Matte Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. At the small sized icons a stand is also available. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.
A thorough quality inspection takes place before we secure the package with durable protective materials to ensure safe delivery.
