About the icon
The Metropolitan of Moscow and Enlightener of Alaska
As the priest Ioann Veniaminov, Innocent served the people of Unalaska and Sitka, learning their languages, building churches and translating the Gospel and services into Aleut. After his wife's death he became a monk and the first bishop of Kamchatka, the Kurile and Aleutian Islands, travelling vast distances by sea and sledge. He ended his life as Metropolitan of Moscow. He is commemorated on 31 March and 6 October. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a raised panel, its background laid by hand in pure silver leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Advanced Museum Standards Technique.
Once the natural wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the Pure Silver Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
