About the icon
The Prince
The ancient story of Barlaam and Ioasaph tells of Ioasaph, son of King Abenner of India, who was raised in a palace shielded from all sorrow. The hermit Barlaam came to him and taught him the Gospel through parables, and the prince was baptised. In time he brought his father to faith, then renounced the kingdom to live as a hermit beside his teacher. He is commemorated on 26 August in the Greek calendar. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a raised panel, its background laid by hand in pure silver leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Advanced Museum Standards Technique.
Once the natural wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the Pure Silver Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.
