About the icon
The Archbishop of Alexandria and Pillar of the Church
As a young deacon Athanasios attended the First Ecumenical Council in 325, and as Archbishop of Alexandria he spent his life upholding its teaching against Arianism, enduring five exiles for it. His work On the Incarnation remains a classic of Christian theology. Icons show him as a hierarch in episcopal vestments, white-bearded, holding the Gospel. He is celebrated on 18 January together with Saint Cyril of Alexandria. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a framed panel, its background laid by hand in 22k gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Premium Museum Standards Technique.
Once the wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the 22 karats Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface. Finally the icon is placed into a wooden frame with protecting glass resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.
