About the icon
The Myrrh-Gusher & Great Martyr
A young officer of Thessaloniki, Demetrios was martyred under the emperor Maximian for preaching Christ, and his young disciple Nestor went on to defeat the gladiator Lyaios in his name. The great basilica built over his tomb became the heart of the city's faith, and fragrant myrrh flowed from his relics. Icons show him young and beardless, often in armour. His feast on 26 October is the city's great feast day. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a framed panel, its background laid by hand in 22k gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Premium Museum Standards Technique.
Once the wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the 22 karats Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface. Finally the icon is placed into a wooden frame with protecting glass resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.
