About the icon
The Wonderworker and Triumphant
George was a Roman officer who, during the persecution of Diocletian, confessed openly that he was a Christian and endured many tortures before being beheaded. His tomb at Lydda in Palestine became a great place of pilgrimage. Icons show him young and armed, standing with a spear and cross or riding a white horse against the dragon. His feast on 23 April, moved to Easter Monday when it falls before Pascha, is a much-loved name day. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a flat panel, its background laid by hand in 22k gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Premium Museum Standards Technique.
Once the wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the 22 karats Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
