About the icon
The Archbishop Defender of Hesychasm, Theologian of Uncreated Light
Gregory Palamas lived as a monk on Mount Athos before becoming Archbishop of Thessaloniki in the fourteenth century. He defended the hesychast monks and their prayer of the heart, teaching that God, unknowable in His essence, is truly encountered in His uncreated energies, the light seen at the Transfiguration. His relics rest in the Metropolitan Church of Thessaloniki. He is honoured on 14 November and on the Second Sunday of Great Lent. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a flat panel, its background laid by hand in 22k gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Premium Museum Standards Technique.
Once the wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the 22 karats Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
