About the icon
The Great Martyr and Triumphant
The mounted image of George, spear thrust into the dragon, shows the triumph of Christ over the power of evil, won through the saint's martyrdom. Many icons add the rescued princess, or the small boy he freed from captivity riding behind him. George, a Roman officer, was beheaded under Diocletian for confessing Christ. His feast is 23 April, moved to Easter Monday when it falls in Lent, and is a great name day. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a framed panel, its background laid by hand in 22k gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Premium Museum Standards Technique.
Once the wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the 22 karats Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface. Finally the icon is placed into a wooden frame with protecting glass resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.
