About the icon
Panagia Eleousa (Vladimirskaya)
The icon was sent from Constantinople to Kiev around 1131, taken to Vladimir in 1155 and brought to Moscow in 1395, when the city was spared from the armies of Tamerlane. It shows the Child pressing his cheek to his Mother's, an image of the bond between God and humanity. Its main feast on 26 August recalls the deliverance of Moscow. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a raised panel, its background laid by hand in matte gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Advanced Museum Standards Technique.
Once the natural wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the Matte Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. At the small sized icons a stand is also available. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.

This is my favourite icon I own and it is amazingly done, this particular icon is a very beautiful depiction of the Mother of God, and the techniques for printing it are well done. Also it has the classic Agiographia box. However be careful! Brexit has happened now so customs made me pay an extra £42 to send it to the UK due to VAT! So make sure you're willing to pay quite a bit more than is listed.
