Repose of Theotokos
The Dormition commemorates the repose of the Virgin Mary, after which, as the Church believes, she was taken body and soul into heaven. The icon shows her lying on a bier, surrounded by the apostles and hierarchs, while Christ stands behind in glory holding her soul as a small child wrapped in white. Celebrated on 15 August after a two-week fast, it is the Summer Pascha of the Greek Church. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a raised panel, its background laid by hand in matte gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Advanced Museum Standards Technique.
Once the natural wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the Matte Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. At the small sized icons a stand is also available. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.
