About the icon
The Life Giving Spring
Tradition tells that the soldier Leo, later emperor, was led by the voice of the Theotokos to a spring outside Constantinople, where a blind man received his sight. A church was built there, and many were healed. The icon shows the Virgin and Child above a fountain, with the sick and the faithful drinking from its waters. The feast is kept on Bright Friday, when water is blessed. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a raised panel, its background laid by hand in matte gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Advanced Museum Standards Technique.
Once the natural wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the Matte Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. At the small sized icons a stand is also available. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.
A thorough quality inspection takes place before we secure the package with durable protective materials to ensure safe delivery.
