About the icon
The Theotokos and the Christ Child
Icons of the Virgin and Child, called Vrefokratousa in Greek, proclaim the Incarnation: the eternal Son of God born as a child of Mary. The Child often blesses with one hand and holds a scroll in the other, while his Mother presents him to the world or draws him close. Such an icon is often given at a wedding, a baptism or for a new home. Painted entirely by hand in tempera, this original is set on a panel with a matte gold leaf background.
This is a 100% Handwritten artwork crafted according to Byzantine technique and style, totally painted by hand with Blue colored background. Once the theme is painted, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the 24 karats Water Gilded Halo, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo. This icon is totally Handmade and though it may have very slight differences from the photos shown.

Hang the icon from the mounting point on its back, away from direct sunlight, radiators and damp walls. Gold leaf and painted colours keep best in steady, dry conditions.
Dust it gently with a soft, dry brush or cloth. Never use water, sprays or cleaning products on the gold or the painted surface.
