About the icon
Panagia Kykkotissa of Cyprus
Tradition holds that the icon was given by the Byzantine emperor Alexios Komnenos to the hermit Isaiah in the late eleventh century, and the monastery of Kykkos grew up around it. The holy icon is kept veiled and has long been honoured by the people of Cyprus, especially in times of drought. The monastery keeps its great feast on 8 September, the Nativity of the Theotokos. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a raised panel, its background laid by hand in matte gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Advanced Museum Standards Technique.
Once the natural wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the Matte Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.
