About the icon
Megalochari
In 1823 the nun Pelagia was guided in visions to the place where a buried icon of the Annunciation was found on Tinos, and a great church was built there. The Panagia of Tinos became the most visited place of pilgrimage in Greece, with many pilgrims climbing the road to the church on their knees. Her main feasts are the Annunciation on 25 March and the Dormition on 15 August. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a carved panel, its background laid by hand in matte gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Advanced Museum Standards Technique.
Once the natural wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the Matte Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.
