About the icon
The Messenger of the Annunciation
Gabriel, whose name means 'God is my strength', is the herald of divine mysteries: he appeared to the prophet Daniel, to Zacharias in the Temple and to the Virgin Mary at the Annunciation. Icons show him winged, in courtly robes, often holding a messenger's staff and a sphere marked with Christ's monogram. He is honoured at the Synaxis of the Archangels on 8 November and at his own synaxis on 26 March, the day after the Annunciation. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a raised panel, its background laid by hand in matte gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Advanced Museum Standards Technique.
Once the natural wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the Matte Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. At the small sized icons a stand is also available. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.
A thorough quality inspection takes place before we secure the package with durable protective materials to ensure safe delivery.
