About the icon
The metamorphosis of Christ on Mount Tabor
The icon shows Christ in white garments within a radiant mandorla, flanked by the prophets Elijah and Moses, while the three apostles fall to the ground below, overwhelmed by the light. The feast on 6 August is one of the twelve great feasts, when grapes and the first fruits are blessed in church. It is a name day for Sotirios and Sotiria in Greece. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a raised panel, its background laid by hand in matte gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Advanced Museum Standards Technique.
Once the natural wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the Matte Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. At the small sized icons a stand is also available. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.
A thorough quality inspection takes place before we secure the package with durable protective materials to ensure safe delivery.
