About the icon

The Martyr

Ephraim lived as a monk at the monastery of the Annunciation on the hill near Nea Makri in Attica, where he was tortured and killed by Ottoman raiders on 5 May 1426. His memory was lost for more than five centuries, until in 1950 his relics were uncovered at the monastery. Since then he has become one of the most loved saints of Greece, invoked for healing and help in need. His feast is on 5 May. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a raised panel with a gold foil background.

This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Advanced Museum Standards Technique.

Once the natural wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the Gold Foil with Gilding Effect on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.

At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. At the small sized icons a stand is also available. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.

A thorough quality inspection takes place before we secure the package with durable protective materials to ensure safe delivery.

Each icon is made to order. Once your order is ready to ship, you will receive the retail receipt and the tracking information via email.
