The Empress and Equal to the Apostles
Helen, mother of the emperor Constantine, supported the faith in the newly Christian empire and travelled to the Holy Land, where tradition tells that she found the Cross of Christ and founded churches at the holy places. Icons show her in imperial robes and crown, often holding the Cross and frequently beside her son. Mother and son share a feast on 21 May, a name day widely kept by those named Eleni and Konstantinos. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a raised panel, its background laid by hand in matte gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Advanced Museum Standards Technique.
Once the natural wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the Matte Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. At the small sized icons a stand is also available. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.

Dust it gently with a soft, dry brush or cloth. Never use water, sprays or cleaning products on the gold or the painted surface.
