About the icon

The Wonderworker and Enlightener of the Aleuts

Herman arrived in Kodiak in 1794 with the missionaries from Valaam Monastery. Settling on Spruce Island, which he called New Valaam, he lived in prayer and simplicity, teaching and caring for the native people of Alaska and defending them against mistreatment. He is honoured on 13 December, the day of his repose, and on 9 August, the day of his glorification in 1970. Icons show him as a monk in a simple habit. Painted entirely by hand in tempera, this original is set on a recessed panel with a matte gold leaf background.

This is a 100% Handwritten artwork crafted according to Byzantine technique and style, totally painted by hand with Matte Gold Leaves Background. Once the theme is painted by our skilled craftsmen, a mounting point and the Certificate of Authenticity and Quality are installed at the back of the icon.

All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo. This icon is totally Handmade and though it may have very slight differences from the photos shown.
