About the icon
The Equal to the Apostles and Emperor of Rome/Byzantium
Before his victory at the Milvian Bridge in 312, Constantine saw the sign of the Cross with the words 'In this sign conquer'. As emperor he ended the persecution of Christians, convened the First Ecumenical Council at Nicaea in 325 and founded Constantinople. Icons show him in imperial robes and crown, often with Saint Helen beside the True Cross. Their feast on 21 May is a much-celebrated name day. This Gallery Print reproduces the icon on a carved panel with a gold print finish.
