About the icon
Theotokos Ancestors
Saint Anne and her husband Joachim prayed long for a child, and in their old age God gave them Mary, who would become the Mother of Christ. This icon honours that holy household, a reminder of the faith passed from one generation to the next. The Church remembers Joachim and Anna on 9 September, and the conception of the Theotokos by Saint Anne on 9 December. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a recessed panel, its background laid by hand in 18k gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Advanced Museum Standards Technique.
Once the natural wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the 18 karats Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.
A thorough quality inspection takes place before we secure the package with durable protective materials to ensure safe delivery.
