About the icon
The mother of Jesus Christ
The Virgin Mary, called Panagia, 'the All-Holy', in Greek, is at the heart of Orthodox prayer. Her icons show her with the Christ Child or turned in supplication, and she wears the maphorion marked with three stars, a sign of her ever-virginity. Her Dormition on 15 August is the great summer feast in Greece and a name day for Maria, Panagiotis and Despina. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a framed panel, its background laid by hand in 22k gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Premium Museum Standards Technique.
Once the wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the 22 karats Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface. Finally the icon is placed into a wooden frame with protecting glass resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.
A thorough quality inspection takes place before we secure the package with durable protective materials to ensure safe delivery.

We deliver worldwide with FedEx and DHL Express: Standard shipping takes 8–10 business days and Express 1–3 business days. Every parcel is insured and tracked.
Orders to the USA and UK are sent with all import duties included, so the price you pay at checkout is the final price, with no customs bill on delivery. Customs in some countries may need an extra day or two to clear the parcel.
Each icon is made to order. The preparation time is shown next to the price, and you receive the receipt and tracking details by email when your icon ships.
Hang the icon from the mounting point on its back, away from direct sunlight, radiators and damp walls. Gold leaf and painted colours keep best in steady, dry conditions.
Dust it gently with a soft, dry brush or cloth. Never use water, sprays or cleaning products on the gold or the painted surface.
After a thorough quality inspection, your icon is placed in its black luxury icon case and secured with durable protective materials for the journey.
