About the icon
Eforos of Mt. Athos
Tradition tells that the Virgin, sailing to visit Saint Lazarus in Cyprus, was driven by the wind to Athos, blessed the mountain and asked her Son to give it to her as her garden. The monks therefore honour her as abbess and overseer of the whole peninsula. The icon shows her standing above the mountain and its monasteries. The Dormition, 15 August, is the feast of the Protaton church at Karyes. This Gallery Print reproduces the icon on a carved panel with a gold print finish.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Gold Print Technique.
Once the natural wood panel is cut and carved to the desired dimensions and shape, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the theme with the Gold Print background, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
