About the icon
Fovera Prostasia of Mt. Athos
The title Fovera Prostasia names the Theotokos as a protection that wards off every danger, and the monks of Koutloumousiou have long honoured her icon as the guardian of their house. She is shown holding the Christ Child. Pilgrims to the Holy Mountain venerate the icon and many carry copies home as a sign of her care for their families. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a raised panel, its background laid by hand in matte gold leaf.
This is an authentic icon crafted according to Byzantine technique and style. All parts are made by hand and only the theme is reproduced using Advanced Museum Standards Technique.
Once the natural wood panel is cut to the desired dimensions, our skilled craftsmen meticulously apply the Matte Gold Leaves on the background. Then the theme is directly printed on the prepared surface, resulting to an exquisite work of art.
At the back of the icon, a mounting point is installed, accompanied by our Certificate of Authenticity and Quality. At the small sized icons a stand is also available. All of our artworks bear the studio’s distinctive title and logo.
A thorough quality inspection takes place before we secure the package with durable protective materials to ensure safe delivery.

Amazing as always - Top quality icons!
Very High Quality Work. I will be purchasing from Agiografia Icons in the future.
This was purchased as a gift for my mother. It's a beautiful icon. The gold leaf background and red border give it a premium feel. The wood itself is about an inch thick. Good and sturdy, with a pop out stand at the back so it can be stood up on any surface. There is also a hole at the back for easy wall hanging. Theotokos and Jesus Christ have wonderful detail. The green is an unusual colour for Mary but nice. I personally like the Orthodox icon art style, and will consider buying some icons for myself in future. I went for the 15 x 19 cm, the smallest size on offer, but as you can see in the photo, it's about the size of a standard book cover. This is ideal, in my opinion. I was also pleasantly surprised by how swiftly this product arrived. Thanks, Agiografia!
I was astonished when I got this icon, it’s divinely beautiful! Excellent shipping and customer service. I cannot recommend Agiografia enough!
