About the icon
Panagia Theotokos Tricherousa
Saint John of Damascus, defender of the holy icons, was falsely accused and his right hand was cut off. He prayed before an icon of the Theotokos, and his hand was restored. In thanksgiving he attached a silver hand to the icon, which later came to Hilandar Monastery on Mount Athos. It is commemorated on 12 July and is invoked in illness and injury. This Museum Edition faithfully reproduces the icon on a carved panel, its background laid by hand in matte gold leaf.
This icon is made of wood and the background is handcrafted with Aged Gold Leaves. The theme is reproduced directly on the canvas, using high end equipment, according to Museum Standards Technique.
